Chimwemwe has worked at Chancellor College since 2011 when he joined as a lecturer in Language and Communication Skills. Since then he has held a number of roles, including programme coordinator of BA in Communication and Culture Studies, deputy head and now he is the current head of Language and Communication Skills Department. 

Chimwemwe has a Master of Arts in English Language Teaching and Applied Language Studies from London Metropolitan University and Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies and Education from African Bible College. Before joining Chancellor College he worked as a secondary school teacher in Malawi and United Kingdom. His research interests are in the areas of Communication and Culture and Academic literacy practices in higher education.
